Volleyball Drops First RMAC Match of the Season

DENVER, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team played their first road match of the season on Sunday, falling to host team Regis University, 3-1.  The loss was the first setback of the conference season for UCCS and it marked the first win for the Rangers.

All-Time Series: Regis extended their winning streak against UCCS to seven matches.  RU leads the all-time series, 41-7.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions poured on the defense in the first set, forcing the Rangers to commit 10 attack errors and a -.100 hitting mark on 30 attempts.  UCCS blocked seven attacks by Regis. 
  • Conversely, UCCS hit a solid .261 in the opening set, committing only three errors while putting down nine kills on 23 attempts.
  • Regis flipped the script in the second set, out-doing UCCS in kills, 12-5, while also forcing the Mountain Lions to hit -.107.
  • The Rangers posted a .261 hitting mark in the second set with 12 kills on 23 attempts on their way to a 25-16 set win to even the match at 1-1.
  • In the third set, the Mountain Lions and Rangers went down to the wire.  UCCS led 23-21 before committing back-to-back attacking errors to knot the match at 23 all.  The Rangers took the set with two straight kills, 25-23, and went on to seal the match win in the fourth set, 25-18.

STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Grace Ferguson paced UCCS at the net with seven kills and a solid .294 hitting mark (two errors, 17 attempts).  She also accounted for two solo blocks and assisted on two.
  • Faith Archibong tallied a team high eight kills and assisted on six blocks.
  • Lauryn Shockley chipped in four kills, three block assists and two aces.
  • Emily Ettel ran the offense with 28 set assists while digging up six attacks.
  • Zoe Olson anchored the back row defense with 11 digs.
  • As a team, the Mountain Lions tallied 35 kills, hit .073 with 33 assists. 
  • UCCS notched 14 blocks and dug up 39 attacks while serving five aces.
  • The Rangers Caitlyn Burroway led both teams with 15 kills.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions return home to Gallogly Events Center on Thursday, Feb. 11 for two matches.  UCCS will face Fort Lewis College at 4 p.m. and the Lopers of University of Nebraska-Kearney at 7 p.m.
