UCCS Drops Back-to-Back Matches at Home

Colorado Springs, Colo. – The No. 22 University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball drops back-to-back matches as they fell to Fort Lewis College in five sets (2-3) and the University of Nebraska-Kearney in straight sets (0-3).

All-Time Series: UCCS now has a 28-22 all-time record against the Skyhawks. FLC ended a 15-match win streak for UCCS in the series.

All-Time Series: UNK now leads the all-time series 29-1. This is the Lopers' 13th win in a row against UCCS.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first match, the Mountain Lions took the first set behind the power of Hannah Ammerman, Faith Archibong, and Lauryn Shockley, who recorded five, three and three kills in the set, respectively. Archibong tabbed a .500 hitting percentage and Ammerman finished with a .400 hitting percentage in the set.
  • The Mountain Lions forced FLC into eight attack errors and took the set 25-23.
  • Fort Lewis flipped the script in the next two sets as they took both by scores of 25-19. The Skyhawks notched 15 kills and a .429 hitting percentage in set two, while getting 10 kills and forcing UCCS into eight attack errors in the third set.
  • The Mountain Lions bounced back in the fourth set in a big way as they took the set, 25-16. Shockley led the way, going 7-for-8 in her attack attempts to finish the set with a hitting percentage of .875. Julia Geiger contributed four kills of her own and an attack percentage of .471.
  • In the fifth set, both teams traded shots to start the set. Fort Lewis pulled ahead late and took the set by a score of 15-12, and the match, 3-2.
  • In the second match, the first set was a battle between the teams. UCCS recorded 16 kills in the set to UNK's 13, but errors plagued the Mountain Lions as they did throughout the match.
  • Grace Ferguson led the team with five kills in the set and a .444 hitting percentage, but UNK took the set, 25-20.
  • The Lopers took the second set 25-19 as UCCS continued to make attack errors, recording eight in the set. The Mountain Lions notched 15 kills in the set to UNK's 12. Lauryn Shockley recorded six kills and a .500 hitting percentage in the set to lead UCCS.
  • Fatigue set in for UCCS in the third set as the Lopers cruised to a 25-10 victory.

STATS FROM THE MATCH
 
Match 1
  • UCCS recorded 57 kills in the match and a combined hitting percentage of .226.
  • Lauryn Shockley led the squad at the net with 18 kills and a .417 hitting percentage. Her 18 kills were a match high.
  • Grace Ferguson added 12 kills as well and a .409 hitting percentage. Ferguson also led the team in aces (two) and added three block assists and one solo block to her day.
  • Faith Archibong led the team with four block assists.
  • Jordyn Kinsey led the team with 31 digs, while Shockley had 22, Madison Mcintosh had 19 and Zoe Olson had 14.
  • Emily Ettel tabbed 47 assists in the match.
Match 2
  • The Mountain Lions recorded 39 kills in the match compared to UNK's 38. However, errors plagued UCCS as they recorded 21 attack errors and nine service errors.
  • Lauryn Shockley again led the attack for UCCS with 12 kills and a.281 hitting percentage in the match.
  • Grace Ferguson and Faith Archibong followed suit with seven and six kills in the match, respectively.
  • Ferguson notched two block assists to lead the team.
  • Jordyn Kinsey recorded a team high 26 digs, followed Shockley with 18 and Madison McIntosh with 11.
 
 
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions will be on the road next week in Spearfish, S.D. as they will participate in a pod against Black Hills State University and Colorado School of Mines. The first match against BHSU will start at 11 a.m. (MT), and the second against CSM will begin at 2 p.m.
