Volleyball Falls at Home to No. 8 Colorado School of Mines

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In a match originally scheduled to be played in Spearfish, S.D., the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team played host to No. 8 Colorado School of Mines Saturday afternoon in Gallogly Events Center.  UCCS fell to the Orediggers, 3-0.

All-Time Series: The Orediggers edge the Mountain Lions in the all-time series, 27-25.  Mines has won the last 14 matches against UCCS.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the opening set, Grace Ferguson led all players in the set with six kills while Hannah Ammerman led both teams with four digs.  The Mountain Lions notched nine kills but committed eight errors and hit .030.
  • On the other side of the net, the Orediggers opened the match with 15 kills and a .243 hitting mark while four players notched multiple kills.
  • In the second set, the Mountain Lions were held to 17 points and seven kills, 10 fewer than CSM.  Lauryn Shockley led the offense with three kills and no errors.
  • Mines improved on their hitting percentage in the second set, accounting for 17 kills and a .324 attack percentage (17-6-34).
  • In the final set, UCCS jumped to a 3-1 lead before Mines rattled off five straight points to take the lead and retain it for the remainder of the set.
  • UCCS was led by Maren Burkhart's three kills in the final set.  Emily Ettel chipped in six assists, an ace, and a solo block.

STATS FROM THE MATCH
  • Ferguson posted a team high eight kills and hit .278 and two block assists.
  • Shockley was two kills off from Ferguson and finished the match hitting .227 and three digs.
  • Ettel ran the offense with 17 assists as UCCS finished the match tallying 23 kills.
  • The Mountain Lions dug up 21 attacks from the Orediggers behind Jordyn Kinsey's team high six digs.
  • The Orediggers' Amanda Donais led all players with 10 kills.  Setter Drew Stokes added four kills, 31 assists and two aces.
  • CSM closed the match with 42 kills and a .266 hitting mark.
 
UP NEXT
UCCS will travel to Adams State University on Feb. 25 for a 7 p.m. match.
