ALAMOSA, Colo. – Playing in their second road match of the season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team earned a five-set win Thursday night at Adams State University.

All-Time Series: The Grizzlies hold a 32-23 all-time record over the Mountain Lions. UCCS has won the last five matches against ASU and six of the last seven.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions lost the first set, 20-25, but flipped the score in the second set, 25-20, to even the match. UCCS took a 2-1 lead after winning the third set, 25-19, before the Grizzlies came back to even the match again at two all with a 25-18 fourth set win. The Mountain Lions took set five, 15-10, to post their first road win.
- Lauryn Shockley and Maren Burkhart combined for nine of the Mountain Lions 13 kills in the opening set. Burkhart hit a solid .273 with her four kills on 11 attempts (one error).
- Hannah Ammerman led the Mountain Lions in the second set, accounting for five kills on only seven attempts. Defensively, Ammerman was solid with six digs and eight serve receptions.
- Burkhart paced UCCS again in the third set, recording five kills while Emily Ettel set the Mountain Lions to nine of their 13 kills in the set.
- UCCS finished the final two sets with a combined 19 kills, nine of which came in the fifth set.
STATS FROM THE MATCH
- Four Mountain Lions recorded double digit kills against the Grizzlies, led by Lauryn Shockley's match high 16 hills. Shockley hit .268 and added four aces and 16 digs.
- Maren Burkhart was also solid at the net, hitting .256 with 15 kills on 39 attempts. Hannah Ammerman and Julia Geiger added 13 and 11 kills, respectively. Ammerman notched two solo blocks at the net and dug up 15 attacks.
- UCCS hit a season high .230 behind 62 kills while committing only 22 errors on 174 attempts.
- Emily Ettel posted 40 of the Mountain Lions 50 set assists. She also added six digs and two kills.
- Jordyn Kinsey led the back row with a match high 24 digs while receiving 13 serves without committing an error.
- UCCS posted 62 kills in the set and hit .230, besting the Grizzlies' 53 kills and .173 hitting percentage.
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions will travel to Grand Junction on March 4. UCCS will play host team Colorado Mesa University at 2 p.m., followed by a neutral site match against MSU Denver at 4:30 p.m.
