Double OT results in Exciting Win Against Skyhawks

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team come out with the win after an exciting double over-time game against the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks, 85-83.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Final: UCCS 85, Fort Lewis College 83 
Records: UCCS (3-8, 3-8 RMAC), Fort Lewis College (4-7, 4-7 RMAC)
Location: Gallogly Events Center | Colorado Springs, Colo.
All-Time Series: UCCS trail the series, 23-30.  The Mountain Lions home record against the Skyhawks is 17-9.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Abby Feickert started the Mountain Lions off sinking a three in the first two minutes of tip-off.
  • Fort Lewis' Warrington checked in just over halfway through the first quarter and helped increase their lead with two back-to-back threes, 5-16.
  • UCCS ended the first quarter 12-16 shooting only 29.4% from the field (5-17) and was out rebounded 12-9.
  • Elly Johnson started off the second quarter for the Mountain Lions with a turnaround jumper to get the score to 18-19 with seven minutes left in the half.
  • With 4:43 left Kaity Hovasse sinks a three to give the Mountain Lions the lead 25-24.  The first half ends 37-24 in favor of UCCS.
  • The second half kicked off with Feickert sinking a three to increase Mountain Lions lead 40-34.
  • With just 3:40 left in the third quarter Fort Lewis brought it to a one position game on a fast break, 44-42.
  • The remainder of the third quarter went back and forth with lead changes.
  • Anna Davern rolled in a layup to increase the score in the beginning of the fourth quarter to 42-49.
  • Katrina Chandler tied the game for Fort Lewis with just 1:09 left in regulation.
  • Fort Lewis controlled most of the first overtime with Hovasse sinking a clutch three deep in the corner with just three seconds left, pushing the game into double OT.
  • Tatum Tellin hit the first points of double OT sinking a three halfway through, 77-74.
  • Jordan Vasquez had an opportunity to tie the game again with six seconds to go in the game but missed her free throw after getting fouled on a lay-up.  Giving the Mountain Lions the win 85-83.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Jessica Nation, Maddie Golla, Anna Davern, and Tatum Tellin all hit double digits in points tonight with 18, 15, 15, and 13 respectively.
  • Golla shot 4-6 (66.7%) behind the arc.  Golla also added two steals to her stats tonight with five rebounds.
  • Nation, Tellin, and Hovasse led the team in rebounds with each player pulling nine.
  • Nation tallied two blocks and two assists for the night.
Beyond the Box
  • Nation had a career night with 18 points and nine rebounds.
  • Golla hit a season high 15 points.
  • Davern achieved a career high 15 points, shooting 50% from the field (6-12).
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions are scheduled to return to the Gallogly Events Center this Monday, Feb. 8, at 5:30 pm against Colorado State University Pueblo.  Fans are not permitted in Gallogly Events Center for home events this year.
