COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team struggled to dent the early lead by Western Colorado University with a final score of 40-74.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Western Colorado held UCCS to just one point in the first quarter. Mercy Gonzalez put UCCS on the board with just 43 seconds left after drawing a foul to get to the free throw line.
- UCCS had a stronger start in the second quarter with Gonzalez scoring just 13 seconds into it.
- The Mountain Lions were able to drop the Mountaineers from 66.7% (10-15) to 33.3% (4-12) in field goal percentage with solid defense and six turnovers by the end of the first half.
- The Mountain Lions started the third quarter with a 6-2 run in the first three minutes dropping the deficit 40-22.
- The Mountaineers were able to break down UCCS's defense shooting 50% from the field ending the third quarter 57-28.
- UCCS continued to struggle in the fourth quarter to shut down shots inside the paint with the Mountaineers shooting 57.1% from the field (8-12).
STATS FROM THE GAME
- Selena Cudney scored a career high seven points.
- Kaity Hovasse achieved a season high three blocks tying her career high.
- Feickert's leadership helped lead the team with 12 points and getting eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal for the night.
- Western's Hannah Cooper could not be slowed down as she capped 15 points and four assists for the evening.

The Mountain Lions are scheduled to return to the Gallogly Events Center this Saturday, Feb. 6, at 5:30 pm as they face Fort Lewis. Fans are not permitted in Gallogly Events Center for home events this year.
