Mountain Lions Aren’t Able to Close Against Roadrunners in Physical Final Home Game

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team struggled to gain the lead in physical battle against the Metro State University Denver Roadrunners, losing 58-63 Saturday night in Gallogly Events Center.

All-Time Series: UCCS trails the series 11-40.  The Mountain Lions have won three of the last 10 matchups.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Roadrunners came out strong making the first seven points of the game and led for the first six minutes of the game.
  • Maddie Golla made a layup with four minutes and 51 seconds left in the first quarter to tie the score 10-10.
  • Then MSU Denver went on a 12-4 run finishing the first quarter, 15-22.
  • The Mountain Lions kept the score within 10 for the first part of the second quarter.
  • MSU Denver was able to capitalize on a UCCS technical and increase their lead 31-20 with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
  • Ellie Moore and Mercy Gonzales picked up the defense with two blocks and forcing two turnovers.
  • The Mountain Lions then dropped the Roadrunners lead to just three as they went on an 8-0 run the remainder of the half.
  • The Mountain Lions fought to drop the Roadrunners lead coming into the second half with Tellin making the first points for the Mountain Lions, 30-36.
  • Golla was able to get the Mountain Lions within four points with four minutes left in the third quarter, 39-43.
  • The fourth quarter started with the Mountain Lions answer each bucket sunk by the Roadrunners with their own.
  • UCCS went on a 10-2 run getting with in three points of MSU Denver with just over one minute to go in the game, 56-59.
  • MSU Denver's defense proved hard for UCCS to break, forcing 20 turnovers and ultimately finishing the game 58-67.
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • Abby Feickert led the team in points with 14 for the night, shooting 6-15 (40%), and pulled four rebounds and had four steals for the night.
  • Bo Shaffer showed her basketball IQ with a team high four assists.
  • Ellie Moore was a force to be reckoned with on defense with four blocks and three rebounds. Moore also had two assists.
  • Golla went 4-9 (40%) from the field with three rebounds, one assist, and one steal for the evening
