CANYON, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team opened the 2021 season Saturday morning with a 3-1 win over Fort Lewis College. The Mountain Lions faced host school in game two, falling to the Buffs, 19-0 in five innings. The Mountain Lions are playing in the West Texas A&M Invitational in Canyon, Texas. All games are being played at Schaeffer Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Vs. Fort Lewis
- Pitcher Lexi Rayburn and the Mountain Lions defense were on fire against the Skyhawks, holding FLC to only one hit.
- After three scoreless innings by both teams, the Skyhawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning off a home run from Brianna Leav.
- The Mountain Lions quickly responded in the top half of the fifth inning. Peyton Reisman scored the game-tying run after reaching base from being hit by a pitch. After Meghan Waidler drew a walk, Reisman went to second base and scored the first run for UCCS when FLC committed an error.
- In the following inning, Mia Perez gave the Mountain Lions a 2-1 lead. Perez doubled to left center and was driven in home from Saleen Quinonez' single.
- In the top of the seventh inning, UCCS took a 3-1 lead to seal the win. With two outs, Peyton Romines doubled to left center and crossed home plate after the next batter, Martinez, singled to the opposite field.
Vs. West Texas A&M
- The Buffs scored three runs in the first, second, and fourth innings to take a 9-0 lead.
- West Texas put the game away in the fifth inning behind seven hits and 10 runs.
- The Mountain Lions were held to one hit and went three-and-out in four innings.
STATS FROM THE GAME
Vs. Fort Lewis
- Rayburn pitched the complete game allowing one run on one hit while fanning five batters.
- UCCS notched six hits against the Skyhawks, four of which were extra base hits. Waidler and Martinez each posted two hits.
- Quinonez tallied two hits on four at-bats with a triple and a run batted in.
Vs. West Texas A&M
- Waidler tallied the Mountain Lions lone hit of the game. She singled up the middle in the fourth inning to advance Reisman to second base. Reisman tapped first base earlier in the inning after a catcher's interference call.

UCCS will play two more games in Canyon, Texas tomorrow against Colorado School of Mines at 1 p.m. (MT) and Lubbock Christian University at 5 p.m. (MT).
