Mountain Lions Fall at Home in Three on Senior Night

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – South Dakota School of Mines entered Gallogly Events Center Saturday evening and took three sets from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team on the Mountain Lions Senior Night.  UCCS honored Maren Burkhart, Grace Ferguson and Director of Operations Meaghan Oosterhous following tonight's match.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
  • Final Score: 0-3 (20-25, 19-25, 22-25)
  • Records: UCCS (8-15, 5-11 RMAC) | South Dakota Mines (11-13, 5-11 RMAC)
  • Facility | Location:  Gallogly Events Center | Colorado Springs, Colo. 
  • All-Time Series: UCCS holds an 8-2 all-time advantage over the Hardrockers.  The Mountain Lions wont the first eight meetings of the series which began in 2014.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hardrockers notched 15 kills and hit .205 in the opening set to take a 25-20 win.  SDSM added three blocks and an ace while holding the Mountain Lions to 12 kills and a .171 attack percentage.
  • SDSM kept the momentum and lead going in the second set until an attack error on the Hardrockers tied the set at 9-9 for the first and only tie of the set.  Back-to-back attack errors by UCCS gave the 'Rockers the lead as they rolled on to win set two, 25-19.
  • The Mountain Lions notched their highest attack percentage (.214) and sideout percentage (66 percent) in the third set, but South Dakota Mines squeaked by the Mountain Lions, 25-22, taking the match in three sets. 
 
MATCH STATISTICS
  • Lauryn Shockley tallied a team high 11 kills and hit a solid .364 on 22 attempts and only three errors.  Grace Ferguson chipped in six kills while Hannah Ammerman and Maren Burkhart each posted five kills.
  • Emily Ettel accounted for 23 of UCCS' 29 assists.  Jordyn Kinsey protected the back row with a match high 11 digs. 
  • UCCS was edged by SDSM in kills (41-34), hitting percentage (.241 to .137), assists (38-29), and blocks (7-3).
  • The 'Rockers Jacey Koethe paced her team with 12 kills on 17 attempts and a .647 hitting mark.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • UCCS went 5-13 in home matches this season.  Three of the five wins were conference wins.
  • Following tonight's match, the Mountain Lions are in a four-way tie for ninth place in the league standings.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions will play their final matches of the regular season Nov. 12 at No. 1 MSU Denver and Nov. 13 at Colorado Christian.
