Mountain Lions Topple Bengals in Home Opener, 100-40

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball topples University of Maine at Fort Kent, 100-40, on Sunday night as the Mountain Lions set a new program record for the largest margin of victory in a single game (60).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UCCS scored the first basket with Jezza McKenzie pulling up to hit a knock down jumper in the paint as the Mountain Lions took the lead at the 18:29 mark and never relinquished it as they continued to go 20-of-34 (58.82 percent) from the field in the first period.
• In the first 20 minutes, 12 different Mountain Lions saw the court and scored including junior Jon'il Fugett who went into halftime leading the team with 10 points. Fugett went 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-3 from three-point as he pocketed three steals in seven and a half minutes on the court (7:32).
With just over seven minutes left in the period, the Mountain Lions proceeded to string together a 13-0 run to help build a safe lead with Wyatt Dolberry recording five of his seven first half points with back-to-back baskets in that span, including a three-pointer at 4:08 to help push UCCS to a 51-21 lead going into halftime.
• In the second half, the Mountain Lions went on to put up 49 points as they held the Bengals to just 19 with Cameron Underwood, Jezza McKenzie, and Dolberry combining for 37 points.
• McKenzie was lights out shooting 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-6 beyond the arc in the period as he and Parker Gaddis started a 16-0 run. Gaddis got the run going with a made three-pointer at 16:24 followed by two consecutive threes from McKenzie as Noah Baca capped it off with a made jumper at 13:22 to establish a 52-point lead, 75-23.
• It was all UCCS from start to finish as Underwood posted 10 points in the period after shooting a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and Dolberry adding two more threes while registering a total of 11 points to help close-out a dominant 60-point win.

STATS FROM THE DAY:
UCCS shot 38-of-72 from the field Sunday night to ring in a 52.8 shooting percentage. The Mountain Lions were even more impressive from beyond the arc at 41.9 percent (13-of-31) as they also finished 91.7 percent from the charity stripe (11-of-12).
• The Mountain Lions out rebounded the Bengals 50-21 and forced 17 turnovers.
• Jezza McKenzie recorded a career high 21 points and seven rebounds after shooting 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point range.
• Cameron Underwood bagged a game-high eight rebounds for a new career high as he also added 14 points.
Parker Gaddis dished out eight assists and scored 10 points all while recording seven rebounds in the win.  
Wyatt Dolberry was second on the team in points with 18 and tied Jon'il Fugett with a game high three steals.
• All 12 Mountain Lions that saw action Sunday night scored with five different Mountain Lions scoring in the double-digits.

BEYOND THE BOX:
• UCCS set a new program record for the largest margin of victory in a single game (60) breaking the previous record of 57 points that was set against Johnson & Wales University on Dec. 1, 2014.
• The Mountain Lions reached the century mark in points for the first time since 2019 when UCCS defeated Fort Lewis College 100-99 on Jan. 11.

• UCCS Men's Basketball will be back in Gallogly Events Center on Wednesday, Nov. 23 as the Mountain Lions take on the Warriors of Southwestern Assemblies of God University American Indian College at 5:30 p.m.
