UCCS Moves to 4-0 With Dominating Performance Over SAGU AIC, 118-67

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball made program history on Wednesday night by tying the most points scored in a single game and registering the best shooting percentage in a single game for over a decade after dominating Southwestern Assemblies of God University American Indian College, 118-67.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• The Mountain Lions established a comfortable lead at half by jumping out on top 55-31 off a stellar 66.7 percent shooting (24-of-36). Geoff Kelly and Alijah Comithier led the way after 17 and 14-point periods, respectively. Kelly was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field as Comithier shot 6-of-8 to help claim the 24-point lead in the first 20 minutes.
• UCCS started the period hitting the ground running with Jezza McKenzie dishing a quick assist off the tip-off to Comithier who slammed it home to start a 7-0 run that McKenzie closed with his first three-pointer of the game at 18:53. Later in the period, McKenzie hit his second three-pointer to start another strong 13-5 run as Devin Smith came off the bench at 13:32 to score all eight of his first half points with a perfect 4-of-4 from the field as he made four of UCCS' next five shots to register a 30-17 lead at 10:53.
UCCS shined on the defensive side of the ball as well by out-rebounding the Warriors 22-9 while causing seven turnovers and notching four steal to head into halftime.
• In the second half, defense continued to force off-balance shots with the Warriors falling to a shooting percentage of 36.4 percent from the field (16-of-44) and 15.4 percent from the three-point range (2-of-13).
• As SAGU AIC continued to struggle, UCCS continued to make plays by being more impressive in the second period with a 67.6 shooting percentage (25-of-37) and posting an even 50 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-12).
• Kelly got the offense rolling right out of halftime by draining his second three-pointer of the game as Comithier followed it up with a made jumper and three-pointer to increase the Mountain Lion lead to 30 points, 63-33.
• Later in the period, UCCS let loose on a 16-0 run with Cameron Underwood and Noah Baca coming off the bench to play a hand in the scoring run. Baca came in to hit a three as Parker Gaddis connected with Underwood on a fast-break to give UCCS a 51-point lead with 12:30 left to top off the 16-0 run, 86-35.
•  Both Baca and Underwood finished the game by combining to score the Mountain Lions's last 10 points to put them at 12 and 11 points for the period respectively as Underwood closed out the night with a dunk to bring the final to 118-67.

STATS FROM THE DAY:
UCCS shot lights out with a final 67.1 percent from the field (49-of-73) and 42.9 percent from the three-point range (9-of-21).
• The Mountain Lions more than doubled the Warriors in rebounds by out-rebounding SAGU 50-23.  
• Geoff Kelly and Noah Baca record a career high in points with 20 and 14, respectively as Kelly shot an impressive 88.9 percent from the field (8-of-9) with Baca recording a 66.7 percent from the field (6-of-9).
• Jezza McKenzie posts his first career double-double and UCCS's second on the year as McKenzie finishes with 13 points and a career high 12 rebounds that all came on the defensive end.
Six different Mountain Lions scored double-digit points with nine different Mountain Lions shooting over 50 percent in the game.
Alijah Comithier bumps his team leading points per game average to 20.3 after going 9-of-11 (81.8 percent) from the field with a game high 22 points.
• The Mountain Lions largest lead of the game reached 51 points in the second period. UCCS also held the lead for all but four seconds on Wednesday night.   

BEYOND THE BOX:
• UCCS tied the program's highest point total for the third time with the last 118-point game happening in 2018 against Colorado Christian University.
• The Mountain Lions reached the century mark in back-to-back games for the first since 2016.
• UCCS' incredible 67.1 percent shooting percentage marks the best field goal percentage in over a decade.
• UCCS starts the season 4-0 for the first time in seven years.

• UCCS Men's Basketball will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 26 as the Mountain Lions travel to Pueblo, Colo. to take on Kansas Christian College at 3 p.m. in Colorado State University Pueblo's Thanksgiving Classic.
