LAWTON, Okla. – The Mountain Lions put together a strong performance from the opening tip as they never trailed in an 84-66 win over Cameron University on Saturday night at CU Aggie Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a slow start offensively for both teams, William Becker drained a three pointer for the first points of the game with 17:31 remaining then added a quick layup to put the Mountain Lions ahead 5-0.
- UCCS quickly found an offensive groove as they surged out to a 20-10 lead at the 10:10 mark with the help of five straight points scored by Geoff Kelly.
- The Mountain Lions would open up their largest lead of the first half at 19 points with 4:43 left after a 10-0 run in which Bobby Martin scored or assisted on each of the 10 points.
- The Aggies found their stride to close the half, outscoring UCCS 9-4 in the final four minutes to cut their deficit to 14 points, 40-26, heading into the intermission.
- The Mountain Lions kept their momentum going to begin the second half as Geoff Kelly caught fire from the field to score eight points as part of an 11-2 run for the Mountain Lions that extended their lead to a game high 23 points with 16:54 remaining.
- CU would not go away easy, however, as a 9-0 run capped by a three pointer from Alejandro Gonzalez with 10:09 remaining cut the Mountain Lions advantage to just 10 points, 59-49.
- UCCS would quickly respond to the Aggie's run with a six-point streak of their own to push the lead back to a comfortable 16 points, and the Mountain Lions would never look back as they locked down their second straight victory to open the season.
STATS FROM THE DAY
- The Mountain Lions shot an impressive 33-of-64 (51.6%) from the field while holding the Aggies to just a 37.1 shooting percentage (23-of-62).
- UCCS also held the advantage in rebounding (48-29), offensive rebounding (18-11), and blocks (8-3).
- Wyatt Dolberry recorded his first double-double of the season with 15 points and a team-leading 14 rebounds on 6-of-13 shooting from the field.
- Geoff Kelly paced the Mountain Lions with 19 points as he went 5-of-7 from three-point range and contributed four assists and three rebounds.
- Parker Gaddis dished out a team-high eight assists while Johnnie Jones III registered the most blocks for UCCS with four.
- William Becker finished third on the team with 13 points while shooting an efficient 6-of-7 from the field.
- Five players logged at least 20 minutes for the Mountain Lions, with Alijah Comithier leading the way with 32 minutes played.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- The Mountain Lions win their first two games of the season for the second time in the last three years.
- The double-double for Wyatt Dolberry was the second of his career, with the first coming in the second game of the 2020-2021 season against CSU Pueblo.
