Patterson Becomes All-Time Program Leader in Assists in 3-2 Loss to CMU

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 5 University of Colorado Colorado Springs falls to Colorado Mesa University at a final score of 3-2 inside Mountain Lion Stadium on Sunday as Tarah Patterson becomes the program's all-time leader in assists. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Series: CMU leads the all-time series against UCCS with a 9-6-2 record.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UCCS' Tori Maydew and Amelia Junge set the tone out of the gate by registering the first goal of the game in the fifth minute. Junge tallied her second assist of the season by connecting with Maydew who scored for the second consecutive game.
• In the 29th minute, the Mavericks brought it back to an even match with Lexi Newton finding the back of the net at 29:07.
UCCS followed up the Maverick score with three shots and two shots on goal from Sydney Lasater and Kaitlin Hinkle but were unable to find a score as the 1-1 tie carried into halftime.
• Five minutes into the second half, CMU took their first lead of the game by landing a Haley Klasner shot into the top corner of the net for a 2-1 advantage.
• UCCS bounced out of the one goal deficit with Tarah Patterson and Fie Steenberg giving the Mountain Lions their second goal. Inking her name into the program record books once again was Patterson as she found Steenberg on the left side of frame for the equalizer in the 56th minute, giving Patterson a program record 24 career assists.
• The Mountain Lions continued to hammer the frame with nine shots following the equalizer as Kendall Stevenson and Kaitlin Hinkle just missed a game-winning score by bouncing shots off the posts.
• At 88:33, the Mavericks then found a break in the UCCS backline that resulted in the winning score with Tatum Pfalmer coming away with the game-winning goal.
 
STATS FROM THE DAY:
• UCCS held the advantage in shots (20-15) as CMU held the advantage in shots on goal (10-8) and corner kicks (7-4).
• Fie Steenberg and Tori Maydew came away with a team high four shots with Maydew recording a team high three shots on goal.   
• Chloe DeShazer makes a season and game high seven saves.
• Katie Puchino tallied a full 90 minutes on the pitch as Makayla Merlo came off the bench to register 69 minutes.
• Four different Mountain Lions scored a point in Sunday's match with Maydew and Steenberg notching two points and Tarah Patterson and Amelia Junge registering one point.

BEYOND THE BOX:
• Tori Maydew is now tied fourth all-time in career goals after netting her 21st on Sunday.
• Tarah Patterson has scored in four consecutive matches as she has broken the program's all-time goals and assists record in that time.

UP NEXT:
• The Mountain Lions are back in Mountain Lion Stadium next week as they prepare to host Metropolitan State University of Denver on Thursday, Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. match against Black Hills State University on Sunday, Oct. 10.
