Mountain Lions Shutout on the Road by CSU Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team was shutout, 3-0, against Colorado State University Pueblo on Wednesday night at Art and Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:      
  • After a 33-minute scoreless stretch to open the match, CSU Pueblo opened up a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute when Vinzent Zingel sent a corner kick into the box where freshman Jan Gruhn was waiting to head it into the net.
  • The Mountain Lions defense endured heavy pressure throughout the first half as the ThunderWolves held an 11-1 advantage in shots and frequently possessed the ball in their offensive third.
  • After a shot by Carlos Sanchis was deflected by UCCS goalkeeper Andreas Kokoska for a save in the 60th minute, the ball rebounded directly to junior Vinzent Zingel for a wide-open goal that extended the Mountain Lions deficit to 2-0.  
  • ThunderWolves sophomore Joshua Hall would add another goal in the 81st minute as CSU Pueblo went on to claim a 3-0 victory.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME  
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions fall to 4-5 in conference action with one game left to play but will still have an opportunity to make the postseason tournament with a win in their season finale depending on the outcomes of other regular season matches across the conference.
  • Andersson led the team in shots for the third consecutive game and has accumulated 14 shots in that stretch.
 
UP NEXT:
  • The Mountain Lions conclude their regular season slate on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 1:30 pm against MSU Denver as they aim to make their way into the postseason picture.
