LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Competing on the road against the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls during their Homecoming weekend, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team was swept by the home team, 23-25, 16-25, 17-25.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening set feature eight ties and two lead changes in what proved to be the closest set of the night. UCCS grabbed their first lead of the night with an offensive attack. Trailing 12-9, Hannah Ammerman put down a kill followed by an attack error from NMHU to bring UCCS within one point, 12-11. Emily Ettel and Maren Burkhart combined for a block to knot the match before Burkhart gave UCCS a 13-12 lead off a kill. Later in the set and trailing 24-21, Madison McIntosh served up an ace as Lauryn Shockley's second kill of the night brought UCCS within one point, 24-23, but a service error ended the opening set in favor of NMHU, 25-23.
- Ammerman gave UCCS a quick lead to open the second set with a kill, but three straight attack errors and a service ace gave the Cowgirls a 4-1 lead they would not relinquish. NMHU took an early 7-3 lead and kept the Mountain Lions at a distance as UCCS was unable to come within four points of NMHU. UCCS registered a match high 14 kills in the set, one more than the opening set, and hit .167 along with 13 assists.
- The Cowgirls continued their momentum into the third set as they bagged a 5-0 lead. Trailing 12-6, the Mountain Lions mounted a comeback and went on an 8-4 run to cut into NMHU's lead, 16-14. Five different Mountain Lions notched a kill while Jordyn Kinsey served an ace to account for six of the eight points during the run, but NMHU was able to lead the entire set and clinch the match win with a 25-17 win in the final set.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Both teams recorded 36 kills each as the Mountain Lions finished the match hitting .093 while NMHU registered a .286 hitting mark.
- Shockley tied for match high honors with 10 kills. Ammerman, Burkhart and Raegen Emery each chipped in six kills.
- Ammerman dug up a team high 10 NMHU attacks and assisted on two blocks.
- Ettel tallied 29 of UCCS' 33 set assists and added four kills.
- Kinsey, McIntosh and Shockley each served an ace as UCCS finished with three aces.
- The Cowgirls were led by Lisi Langi's 10 kills and six block assists. NMHU held a 12-3 advantage in blocks while added five aces.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UCCS has won 28 of the 44 matches against NMHU, but tonight's setback snapped an eight-match winning streak over the Cowgirls.
