COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team hosted South Dakota School of Mines Friday night with a hard fought loss, 61-72.

HOW IT HAPPENED
· Abby Feickert got the Mountain Lions started with the first point of the night at the line. From there it was a hard-fought back-and-forth between UCCS and SDSM.
· SDSM started to pull away with four minutes left in the first quarter shooting 5-for-5 behind the arc and 62.5% (10-16) from the field.
· The Mountain Lions defense picked up in the second quarter dropping the Hardrockers field goal percentage to 46.2% (6-14), while 10 turn overs.
· The first half ended 31-44 in favor of the Hardrockers with them outrebounding the Mountain Lions 18-12.
· Defense picked up in the third quarter for both teams with the Mountain Lions only scoring eight points and the Hardrockers eight; the third quarter ended 39-51.
· UCCS cut the lead down to 10 with 5:13 left in the game, 49-59, but SDSM's defense forces 10 turnovers against UCCS and 15 of their 22 points from the quarter came from offensive rebounds.
STATS FROM THE GAME
· Freshman Jessica Nation led the team in blocks with two for the night; Nation also ended the night with two steals and three rebounds.
· Senior Abby Feickert led the team in points, scoring 13 for the night and shooting 38.5% from the field (5-13).
· Elly Johnson proved crucial on defense with five rebounds and one steal.
· Ryan Weiss, for SDSM, finished the night with 18 points.
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions are scheduled to play host to Regis this Monday, February 1 at 3:30 PM. Fans are not permitted in Gallogly Events Center for home events this year.
