Volleyball Improves to 2-1 After Taking Down CSC, 3-1

COLORADO SPRING, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team improves their record to 2-1 overall (2-0 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) after taking down Chadron State College, 3-1.

All-Time Series: UCCS leads the series 26-12. The Mountain Lions now have a four-game win streak and have a home record of 12-7 against the Eagles.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions jumped out to an early lead after taking the first set, 25-16. Lauryn Shockley, Faith Archibong and Jenna Szilagyi all had four kills in the set to lead the squad, with Shockley tabbing a .500 hitting percentage.
  • Chadron State answered by taking the second set, 25-20.
  • The Mountain Lions would bounce back in a big way by taking the next two sets, 25-13 and 25-18, respectively. Archibong led the team with eight combined kills in the two sets, including an .857 hitting percentage (6-for-7) in the third set.
  • Maren Burkhart went a perfect 4-for-4 on her attacks in the third set to propel the Mountain Lions to a victory.

STATS FROM THE MATCH
  • Lauryn Shockley led all players with 14 kills in the match and added two aces as well.
  • Faith Archibong tallied 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .550 (13-for-20).
  • Maren Burkhart tabbed a .667 hitting percentage after going 6-for-9 on her attack attempts.
  • The Mountain Lions totaled eight aces in the match, with Grace Ferguson leading the charge with four aces of her own.
  • Emily Ettel recorded a game-high 42 assists in the match.
 
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions are scheduled to take on Regis University and Colorado Christian University in a pod on Sunday, Feb. 7. The matches will be played in Denver, Colo. at the Regis Fieldhouse. The match against Regis is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and the match against CCU is scheduled for 1 p.m.
