Mountain Lions Overcome Double Digit Deficit; Record 14-Point Road Win

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team overcame a 13-point deficit in the first half and earned a 14-point win at Colorado Christian University Saturday night, 66-52, at CCU Event Center in Lakewood, Colo.  The 52 points allowed are a season low for the Mountain Lions.

All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions lead CCU in the all-time series, 30-19.  UCCS has won eight of the last nine meetings, and seven of the last eight games at CCU.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
After one quarter of action, the Mountain Lions trailed the Cougars, 17-5.  UCCS was held to just 2-of-15 field goals and a 13.3 shooting percentage in the first 10 minutes.
 
The Mountain Lions started their comeback in the second quarter with a 14-5 run, seven of which were scored by Jessica Nation.  UCCS hit a solid 6-of-9 field goals during the run and finished the quarter netting 9-of-17 from the floor for 52.9 percent.
 
Down only three points at halftime, 28-25, UCCS kept their hot shooting and stalwart defensive play the entire second half.
 
Anna Davern jump started a 13-0 run in the third quarter with a layup, followed by another layup from Abby Feickert.  Nation drained a three-pointer to give UCCS their first lead of the game, 32-30, at the 7:36 mark.  Feickert added back-to-back jumpers while Davern closed the run with two made field goals.
 
During the Mountain Lions 13-0 run, Bo Shaffer accounted for three of the Mountain Lions four steals.  All three of her steals led to seven points.
 

STATS FROM THE GAME
Nation scored a career high 17 points behind 6-of-9 field goals, two treys and three free throws (3-for-3).
 
Feickert chipped in 16 points on 7-of-11 field goals, and added three rebounds, two assists and three steals.  Feickert and Nation combined to score 33 of the Mountain Lions 66 points.
 
Davern neared a double-double with nine rebounds and eight points.  Shaffer finished the game with five steals, four assists, five rebounds and four points.
 
UCCS recorded season highs tonight in made field goals (26), assists (15) and steals (15).
 
After a cold shooting start, the Mountain Lions finished the game making 45.6 percent from the floor (26-57), 40 percent from downtown (6-15) and 80 percent from the charity stripe (8-10).
 
UCCS led CCU in points off turnovers (26-12), points in the paint (30-22), fast break points (20-8) and bench scoring (17-10).
 
CCU's Brookelyn Hurlbut led all scorers with 22 points.
 
UP NEXT
The Mountain Lions, who have played their last five games on the road and have not played at home since Dec. 19, 2020, will face Regis University in Gallgoly Events Center on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
