4/16/2020 1:10:00 PM

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs head men's basketball coach Jeff Culver has added two more recruits to the Mountain Lions signing class.  Bobby Martin and Kyle Schaefer have signed a National Letter of Intent to play for UCCS in 2020-21.

A transfer from Everett Community College in Everett, Wash., Bobby Martin is a 2018 product of Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish, Wash.  This past season for the Trojans, Martin averaged 16.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.  He shot 54.5 percent from the floor (177-325), 39.2 percent from three-point range (74-189) and 83.9 percent from the free throw line (73-87).  The ECC Freshman of the Year, Martin also earned All-Region First Team and All-Defense First Team accolades.  He helped the Trojans to their third straight North Conference title in three years.  Martin will have three years of eligibility with the Mountain Lions.

"Bobby will have an immediate impact on our program," said Culver.  "Not only can he shoot the ball well, but he also brings with him a winning mentality and a seldom matched competitive spirit."

Kyle Schaefer will join the Mountain Lions from Brandeis High School in San Antonio, Texas.  A soon-to-be graduate of BHS, Schaefer averaged 15.5 points per game this past season.  He was a two-time Texas District 28-6A First Team all-district selection, including a unanimous choice this past season.  An All-Region 4 6A honoree, Schaefer scored his 1,000th this season.  He helped the Broncos qualify for the playoffs the past three years and led them to a 33-3 record where they won the Texas 6A District 28-6A and Texas 6A Region 4 tournaments to advance to the state tournaments.  Schaefer and the Broncos boys' basketball team became the first team in school history in any sport to qualify for the state tournament.

"We are excited to have Kyle join our program," said Culver.  "He comes to us from an excellent program and has excelled on the court and in the classroom.   He has a very bright future ahead of him in our program."

Martin and Schaefer join Jeremiah McKenzie and Cameron Underwood to the 2020 signing class.  Martin and Underwood were teammates at ECC the past two seasons.
