COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the first time this season and the third time in program history, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team recorded a shutout. The Mountain Lions, facing New England College for the first time ever, defeated the Pilgrims, 15-0, at Mountain Lion Stadium.
The win improves UCCS to 2-3 on the season and 2-1 on their home turf. NEC moves to 1-2 overall.
Ten Mountain Lions found the back of the net and eight assisted on goals as
Madison Ellis and
Kiera Lowe paced UCCS with three goals each. Ellis posted a team high five points with three goals and two assists to go with her team high five shot attempts (four shots on goal), including the game-winning goal. All three of Lowe's goals came in the first half.
Scoring their first goals of the season Thursday afternoon were
Lauren Youngquist,
Hannah Koopal,
Anna Markham,
Camille Callahan and
Vanessa Nelson.
The Mountain Lions dominated the Pilgrims in the first half, outscoring NEC 11-0 while holding them to only one-shot attempt.
The Mountain Lions won 11 of the 17 draw controls and were successful on 15-of-16 clear attempts.
Kennedy Travis earned the win in goal, stopping one shot on goal in the first 30 minutes of action.
Madison McGriff defended the goal in the second half, making three saves.
Sydney Malcolm and
Annie Berg led UCCS with four ground balls each as UCCS picked up 31 for the game.
The Mountain Lions will continue their five game homestand on March 12 when they play host to Ashland at 3 p.m.
