Women’s Basketball Falls to Roadrunners, 57-49

DENVER, Colo. – Playing their first game of a four-game road swing, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team lost a 57-49 decision Friday night at Metropolitan State University of Denver at the Auraria Event Center in Denver, Colo.
 
The loss moves UCCS to 6-16 on the season and 5-11 in league games.  The Roadrunners improve to 10-12 overall and 9-7 in the RMAC.
 
UCCS opened the first quarter with a 17-15 lead after sinking all five free throw attempts.  MSU Denver shot 54.5 percent from the floor (6-of-11) in the opening stanza and closed the first half with a 31-30 lead over UCCS.
 
The Mountain Lions were outscored in the second half, 26-19, and were held to eight points in the third quarter.  After making all seven free throw attempts in the first half, UCCS attempted only two free throws in the second half, hitting 1-of-2.
 
Abby Feickert paced UCCS with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.  Kaity Hovasse chipped in eight points, seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and an assist.  Ellie Moore added eight points and three steals, and Madi Gaibler came off the bench to pour in eight points.
 
The Mountain Lions scored 22 points off of MSU Denver's 22 turnovers.  UCCS outscored MSU in second chance points, 7-2, while the bench netted nine more points than the Roadrunners' bench, 19-10.
 
UCCS finished the game shooting 30.6 percent from the floor (19-of-62), 21.4 percent from long range (3-of-14) and 88.9 percent from the free throw line (8-of-9).
 
Three Roadrunners scored a team high 10 points and were led by Morgan Lewis' double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
 
The Mountain Lions will travel to Chadron, Neb. to take on Chadron State College Saturday night at 5:30 p.m.
