Naughton, Olson Record Hat Tricks in Mountain Lions Home Opener

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Angela Naughton and Regan Olson led the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team Monday night in the Mountain Lions home opener against Davenport University as both players recorded hat tricks against the Panthers.  DU spoiled UCCS' first home game of the season, taking a 16-8 decision.

The loss moves UCCS to 0-3 on the season while Davenport improves to 2-1.

The Panthers Aaliyah Miller netted the first two goals of the non-conference match before Olson put UCCS on the scoreboard from Naughton's assist seven minutes into the game.  Miller tallied a hat trick within 10 minutes to put DU up 3-1, but Naughton came back to bring UCCS within one goal after a free position shot at 17:18.

Naughton and Olson accounted for one more goal each in the first half as UCCS trailed the Panthers after 30 minutes of action, 6-4.

Ten minutes into the second half the Panthers added two goals to their lead, 8-4, but UCCS started a comeback with back-to-back goals from Olson and Naughton.  Olson's third goal of the game came on a free position shot before Heather O'Hern found Naughton for the Mountain Lions sixth score of the evening.

Davenport would rattle off eight straight goals to take a 16-6 lead with 5:29 left in regulation.  Natalie Church and Holly Sodomka each found the back of the net within 30 seconds of each other to score the final two goals of the game.

Both teams played physical as nine yellow cards and 34 fouls were handed out.

Naughton posted a team high four points (three goals, one assist) and a team high seven shots and six shots on goal.  She converted on 2-of-3 free position shots.

Church won four of the Mountain Lions nine draw controls.  Goalkeeper Kennedy Travis scooped up a team high eight ground balls.  Travis made 11 saves in 60 minutes between the posts.

The Mountain Lions were outshot, 40-21, and won nine of the 26 draw controls.

Three Panthers scored hat tricks behind Miller's game high six goals and two assists.  Ryann Deuel chipped in four goals and two assists and Anna Glynn added three goals.
