Second Half Comeback Falls Short for Lacrosse

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team scored five second half goals while holding Rockhurst University to only one goal, but the Mountain Lions second half comeback fell short to the Hawks, 12-7.

Rockhurst (1-2) scored the first seven goals of the game in the first 17 minutes of action.  Mallory Corrigan put the Mountain Lions on the scored board from Regan Olson's assist in the 19th minute for her first goal of the season.

The Hawks tacked on three more goals before Kiera Lowe netted a free position goal with 2:04 left in the first half.  A quick answer by Rockhurst put UCCS down at halftime, 11-2.

Natalie Church and the Mountain Lions started to mount a comeback in the second half, scoring the first five goals of the half.  Church tallied her first goal of the season when she scored a man-down goal just 61 seconds into the half.

Three minutes later, Church assisted Angela Naughton for the Mountain Lions fourth goal of the game.  Heather O'Hern then found Regan Olson for Olson's first score this season with 17:04 left in regulation.  Audrey Napp's goal in the 49th minute brought the Mountain Lions within five goals, 11-6, but the Rock's Addison Bradley added an insurance goal for RU with 4:29 left in regulation.

Church found the back of the net for her first multi-goal game with 62 ticks remaining, but eventually fell to RU, 12-6.

Church paced the offense with two goals and an assist while also picking up three ground balls and winning three draw controls.

Madison McGriff came off the bench to tally five ground balls, combining with Holly Sodomka's four ground balls as part of the Mountain Lions 30 team ground balls.

UCCS was outshot in the game, 37-26 (26-19 shots on goal) and won 10 of the 21 draw controls.
