PREVIEW | Softball Set for OCU/UCO Festival II

This Week's Games
  • The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team (2-4) will hit the road again this weekend when they travel to Oklahoma for the Edmond Regional Festival II, hosted in Oklahoma City, Okla. and Edmond, Okla.  Oklahoma Christian (OC) and No. 7 University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) are serving as the tournament hosts.
  • The Mountain Lions will open the Festival on Friday, Feb. 14 against Rogers State (OC) at 9 a.m. (MT), and then will face Central Oklahoma (UCO) at 1 p.m. (MT).
  • On Saturday, UCCS will face Oklahoma Christian (OK) at 11 a.m. (MT) and Northeastern State (OC) at 5 p.m. (MT).
  • The Mountain Lions fifth and final game of the weekend will be on Sunday at 11 a.m. (MT) against Lubbock Christian (UCO).

Weather Forecast
  • The weather for this weekend in the Oklahoma City area is forecasted to be dry.  Friday's high will reach near 50 degrees with clear skies, while Saturday's and Sunday's weather is slated to be partly cloudy with highs in the low 60's.
 
RMAC Standings
  • The Mountain Lions and all 13 RMAC schools will begin conference play Feb. 22-23. 
 
The Series
  • UCCS will face Rogers State and Northeastern State for the first time in program history.
  • The meeting between Central Oklahoma and Oklahoma Christian will be the second time the Mountain Lions have played both teams.  UCCS squared off against UCO and OCU for the first time in program history at the same Festival in Edmond, Okla. last season (L, 3-7 vs. UCO and L, 4-6 vs. OCU).
  • Sunday's meetings against Lubbock Christian is the fourth time overall UCCS and the Chaps will meet each other, and the second time in a week.  LCU holds a 3-0 series lead over the Mountain Lions.
 
Hot Takes
  • Freshman Brianna Santos leads the Mountain Lions offense with a .444 batting average.  Five of Santos' eight hits have been extra base hits (three doubles, one home run, one triple).  She has driven in a team high 10 runs and has scored a team high five runs, while successfully stealing three bases without getting caught.
  • Payton Romines has belted two home runs and driven in six runs while scoring three times off of five hits. 
  • Solana Martinez has drawn a team high five walks.  In 15 at-bats, she has collected four hits, including two doubles, a home run and added four RBIs.
  • Defensively, Bryn Horton has tallied 32 putouts and committed only one error for a .970 fielding percentage. 
  • In the circle, Braelyne Crenshaw has earned both wins for the Mountain Lions.  Crenshaw has completed all three games she has started.  In 18 innings, she has struck out 14 batters and owns a 6.22 ERA and a 2-1 record.
 
UCCS Under Coach Ricki Rothbauer-Stubbs
  • The 2020 season marks Ricki Rothbauer-Stubbs fifth season at the helm of the Mountain Lions, and her 10th season as a head coach.  In her five seasons at UCCS, Rothbauer-Stubbs is 95-108 overall.  In nine seasons as a head coach, she owns a 186-278 overall record.  Rothbauer-Stubbs spent her first four seasons as a head coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville (68-144), followed by one season at Northwestern Oklahoma (23-26).  She recorded her first winning season in 2019 when she led UCCS to a 28-26 overall record.
 
Upcoming Games
  • The Mountain Lions will play their first games of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season Feb. 22-23 in Golden, Colo. at Colorado School of Mines.  Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m., followed by Sunday's doubleheader at 11 a.m.
