COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs completes the Friday-Saturday sweep with a win over Colorado State University – Pueblo. In a game that UCCS led for a total of 32 minutes, the Mountain Lions outlasted the ThunderWolves 86-72. UCCS is now 13-7 overall and 9-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Mountain Lions record their second consecutive game shooting over 50 percent as they finished the game shooting 58.6 percent from the field (34-58 FG), which included a second half shooting percentage of 61.3 percent. UCCS also outrebounded CSUP 36-32 and dished out 18 assists to the ThunderWolves' six.
Padiet Wang led all scorers with 30 points on 12-of-15 shooting, 2-of-3 from long range and 4-of-6 from the free throw line. Wang also recorded a game high six assists.
William Becker and
Alijah Comithier followed suit with 16 and 11 points, respectively, with Becker hauling in a team high eight rebounds as well.
The first half was a back and forth affair as the largest lead by either team was a six-point UCCS lead. Both teams shot it well in the half as the Mountain Lions took a four-point, 39-35 lead into the locker room.
The second half featured another offensive clinic from the Mountain Lions, the second game in a row that UCCS has exploded offensively. The Mountain Lions went 19-for-31 in the half and never trailed in the final 20 minutes of play. Unlike last night's game, the final few minutes proved uneventful as UCCS cruised to the 14-point win.
UCCS will be on the road next weekend taking on Metropolitan State University of Denver and Chadron State College. The Mountain Lions face off against MSU Denver on Friday, February 7, then CSC on Saturday, February 8.
