Women’s Basketball Downed by No. 12 Griffins, 75-64

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – One night after earning their first win of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team fell to the 12th ranked team in Division II Saturday night.  UCCS, who defeated Dixie State University last night, fell on the road to Westminster College, 75-64.

The Griffins, who suffered their first loss of the conference season last night to Colorado School of Mines, never trailed to the Mountain Lions (2-11, 1-6 RMAC).

After 20 minutes of play, the Mountain Lions entered the second half trailing WC by nine points, 43-34.  Both teams drained 15 field goals each in the first two quarters, but the Griffins hit three more three-pointers than UCCS and made 6-of-10 free throws while the Mountain Lions were not sent to the free throw line once.

Makenna Baker paced the Mountain Lions with 11 points on 4-of-9 field goal shooting.  Anna Davern produced a well-balanced game behind 10 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Tatum Tellin chipped in eight points and four rebounds, while Abby Feickert notched seven points, six caroms, two steals and a blocked shot.

The Mountain Lions closed the game hitting 27-of-62 from the floor (43.5 percent) and 6-of-9 from the charity line (66.7 percent).

WC took advantage of attempting 15 more free throws than the Mountain Lions as they sank 18-of-24.  For the game, the Griffins shot 44.6 percent from the field (25-of-56) and 41.2 percent from behind the arc (7-of-17).

Three Griffins scored in double digits and were led by Hunter Krebs' 25 points and five rebounds. All 75 points for WC came from their starters.

UCCS tallied 21 points off 19 Griffins turnovers but were outscored on second chance points, 16-6.

After five straight games on the road, the Mountain Lions will return home to Gallogly Events Center Jan. 10-11 when they play host to Fort Lewis College and Adams State University.
