COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball program has been selected sixth overall with 86 points in the 2020 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason poll, announced today by the league office.

Dixie State University edged Colorado Mesa University to be the favorite in this year's preseason poll. The Trailblazers received seven first place votes and 133 points, two more than the defending RMAC champions CMU (three first-place votes, 131 points).

The coaches' poll was voted on by all 13 head softball coaches. Coaches could not vote for their own institution.

UCCS finished the 2019 campaign with the sixth best record in the league to qualify for the conference championship tournament, owning a 23-16 RMAC record (.590) and a 28-26 overall record (.519).

The Mountain Lions return 12 letterwinners from last year's team – Bryn Horton, Saleen Quinonez, Taylor White, Sawyer Brewster, Kaley Wagner, Payton Romines, Shae Bushey, Alex Cook, Meghan Waidler, Cami Duffey, Peyton Reisman and Braelyne Crenshaw – and add seven new faces to the program – Morgan Hernandez-Belew, Taylor Harrison, Brianna Santos, Courtnie Heller, Lexi Rayburn, Solana Martinez and Gabrielle Cronin.

The Mountain Lions will open their season Feb. 7-9 in Lubbock, Texas at the LCU Softball Classic.  UCCS will play six games against Fort Hays State University, Lubbock Christian University, University of Nebraska-Kearney, St. Edward's University, Newman University and Eastern New Mexico University.
