Comithier, Avdili Lead Mountain Lions Past Grizzlies, 92-85

Avdili Scores 1,000th Career Point

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – One night after scoring a career high 20 points in a win over Fort Lewis College, Alijah Comithier recorded another career high after dropping 28 points Saturday against Adams State University.  Blend Avdili matched a season high 24 points as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team notched a 92-85 win over the Grizzlies. Avdili's layup in the 11th minute of the game marked his 1,001st career point at UCCS.
 
UCCS (10-4, 6-3 RMAC) improves to 7-2 at Gallogly Events Center and have won four straight games at home.  The Grizzlies drop to 6-10 on the season and 3-6 in league games.
 
The Grizzlies closed the first half on a 14-6 run to cut into the Mountain Lions lead.  UCCS took a three-point advantage into the locker room at halftime, 37-34.  Comithier had posted 10 points and five rebounds in the first 20 minutes of action, while William Becker netted 10 of his 16 points in the first half.
 
In the second half of action, the Mountain Lions led for nearly 18 minutes, but never grasped more than a five-point lead as the half featured four lead changes.
 
Comithier and Avdili each scored 18 points in the second half of action and combined for five three-pointers.
 
The Grizzlies Juwan Green kept ASU in the mix with 22 second half points.
 
Comithier finished the game making 9-of-15 field goals, 2-of-5 three-pointers and 8-of-10 from the free throw line.  Avdili hit 8-of-18 from the floor, including three three-pointers, and 5-of-7 from the charity stripe.
 
Becker came off the bench to chip in 16 points after making 6-of-8 from the floor and adding five rebounds, three assists and a steal.  Parker Gaddis added 10 points, five rebounds and four dimes.
 
The Mountain Lions produced a solid shooting performance, making 47.5 percent from the floor (29-61) and 82.4 percent from the free throw line (28-34).
 
The Grizzlies' Green led all players with 37 points behind 13 field goals and 8-of-8 free throws.
 
UCCS will travel to South Dakota on Jan. 17-18 to take on Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines.
