Hot Shooting Night for UCCS Leads an Upset Win over Fort Lewis, 80-70

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team upset Fort Lewis College (10-4, 4-4 RMAC) tonight at the Gallogly Events Center. In an offensive showcase that featured both teams shooting over 50 percent, the Mountain Lions outlasted the Skyhawks by a score of 80-70. That improves UCCS' record to 9-4 (5-3 RMAC) this season.

Both teams shot the ball very well in this game, with UCCS finishing at 53.3 percent from the field (32-60 FG) and FLC finishing at 51.8 percent from the field (29-56 FG). UCCS also shot 37.5 percent from beyond the arc while holding FLC to only 29.4 percent. The Mountain Lions also outrebounded the Skyhawks 33-27 in the game and dished out 19 assists to FLC's 11.

Padiet Wang led the Mountain Lions with 25 points (10-13 FG) and added seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Alijah Comithier and Blend Avdili rounded out the top three scorers for UCCS with 20 and 18 points, respectively. Both Comithier and Avdili recorded a game high in three-pointers with three each, with Avdili adding a game high nine rebounds. Parker Gaddis tallied a game high nine assists in the win as well.

In the first half, UCCS never trailed and had as much as a 14-point lead (37-23). The Mountain Lions drilled six threes in the half to help build their lead and finished the period shooting 45.7 percent from the field. Even though FLC shot 54.2 percent in the half, UCCS went into the locker with a 41-34 lead.

The second half featured even more offense from both teams as FLC was able to tie the game at 55-55 with about 12:30 left in the game behind a great shooting night from Riley Farris, who finished with a game high 36 points. However, that would be as close as FLC would come to a victory as UCCS quickly regained the lead and would not relinquish it again. After a few last second shots from FLC, UCCS was able to dribble out the clock and take home their ninth win of the season.

The Mountain Lions are back in action tomorrow night as they get ready to take on Adams State University. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. inside the Gallogly Events Center.
