DURANGO, Colo. – Recording their first sweep of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team improved to 3-1 in league matches after defeating Fort Lewis College on the road Saturday evening, 3-0 (-14, -19, -16).
The Mountain Lions (5-7 overall) posted season highs for a three-set match in kills (52), total attempts (115), assists (49) and blocks (seven), and their .357 hitting percentage was the second highest mark of the season. The Mountain Lions committed only 11 hitting errors tonight on 115 attempts.
Taylor Smith led all players with a match high 13 kills. She committed only one hitting error on 25 attempts for a .480 hitting mark.
Grace Nelson was errorless at the net on 18 attempts as she put down 10 kills (.556 hitting percent) and added two solo blocks.
Hannah Ammerman and
Lauren Brown each registered eight kills. Brown finished the match with an impressive .636 hitting mark with one blemish on 11 attempts.
On the backline,
Jordyn Kinsey posted a match high 16 digs. Supporting the defense were Ammerman and
Aly Morgan with 12 digs each.
Raelynne Edge and
Emily Ettel split time quarterbacking the offense, setting up for 26 and 17 assists, respectively.
UCCS doubled the Skyhawks output in kills, 52-24, while holding FLC to a .064 hitting mark.
The Mountain Lions will stay on the road when they take on Colorado School of Mines on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m., before returning home Oct. 4-5 to play host to South Dakota School of Mines and Black Hills State University.
