Mountain Lions Edged by No. 23 Colorado School of Mines

GOLDEN, Colo. – The 23rd ranked team in Division II broke the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team's three-match winning streak as the Mountain Lions fell at Colorado School of Mines Tuesday night, 3-0 (29-31, 19-25, 17-25).

UCCS (5-8, 3-2 RMAC) and the Orediggers (11-2, 4-1 RMAC) went down to the wire in the opening set with CSM tipping the scales, 31-29.  The Mountain Lions held control of set point four times but the Orediggers tied the set each time.  UCCS battled back from being down 28-27 after Taylor Smith blocked an attack to tie the match at 28 all.  A CSM attack error gave UCCS a 29-28 lead, but the Orediggers finished the match scoring three straight points on a kill, a Mountain Lion error and a Mines service ace.

Grace Nelson, Smith and Josie Russell accounted for 28 of UCCS' 43 kills.  Nelson finished the match with 10 kills while Smith and Russell each put down nine.  Smith added five digs and three blocks as Russell also chipped in three blocks.

Raelynn Edge posted 24 of the team's 39 assists.  Emily Ettel aided the offensive attack with 10 more assists.  Libero Jordyn Kinsey notched a team high 14 digs.

UCCS hit .254 for the match behind 43 kills on 122 attempts.

The Orediggers were led by Abby Tiesman's 18 kills and Megan Neil's .786 hitting mark and 12 kills.  CSM closed the match with 57 kills and hit .431 at the net.

After a three-match road swing, the Mountain Lions will return home to Gallogly Events Center this weekend.  UCCS will play host to South Dakota School of Mines on Friday at 7 p.m., and Black Hills State University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
