Mountain Lions Kick Weekend off with a Win Against Hardrockers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team started their weekend with a win against the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology Hardrockers.  In a four-set match the Mountain Lions pulled away with set scores ending at 26-24, 25-16, 22-25, 25-15.

The Mountain Lions (6-8 overall, 4-2 RMAC) held the Hardrockers to a .140 hitting percentage for the night.  The offense was unstoppable with Grace Nelson (11), Lauryn Shockley (14), Taylor Smith (12), and Josie Russell (15) all hitting double digits in kills.  Nelson achieved a match high .455 hitting percentage after committing only one error on 22 attempts.

Raelynne Edge set the Mountain Lions offensive attack with 40 assists.  Emily Ettel piggybacked Edge on assists as they combined for 56 assists out of 128 attempts.

Dana Thomson proved crucial in the SDSM's (6-8, 2-3 RMAC) comeback in set three with a match high of 16 kills out of the team's 43.

Protecting the backline Jordyn Kinsey had 17 digs coupled with perfect reception of 36 serves.

The Mountain Lions are back at it tomorrow night at 5p.m. against Black Hills State.
