Volleyball Falls in Close Match to Yellow Jackets

Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs Mountain Lions (6-9, 4-3 RMAC) fell to Black Hills State Yellow Jackets (6-8, 4-2 RMAC) in a narrow four-set match Saturday night in Gallogly Events Center.  UCCS won the first set coming from behind in an 8-1 run to end the set and carried that momentum in the second set starting with an 8-0 run.  Ultimately, UCCS ended the match falling 3-1 with each set ending, 25-21, 23-25, 25-27, 25-27.

Grace Nelson showed up strong offensively with 16 kills and only two errors on 27 attempts earning a team high of .519 hitting percentage.  Josie Russell was unstoppable at the frontline with 18 kills on 35 attempts and helped defensively with six blocks.

Raelynn Edge proved crucial in the match on both offense and defense setting up 38 assists (just two under a season high) on 88 attempts and only one error achieving a .432 assist percentage.  Edge also had a match and season high 14 digs.

The teams were evenly matched on attacking percentage. BHSU finished with a .289 attack percentage and UCCS with .254, but the Yellow Jackets had three players in double digits for kills.

Next weekend the Mountain Lions hit the road to face the Dixie State Trailblazers and Westminster Griffins.
