Mountain Lions Shutout by Orediggers, 2-0

GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team squared off against Colorado School of Mines for their second conference match-up of the weekend, as they fell to the Orediggers at a final score 2-0 inside CSM Stermole Complex on Sunday.

UCCS (1-3-1, 0-2-0 RMAC) was out-shot by CSM (4-2-0, 2-0-0 RMAC) 20-5, as the Orediggers held the advantage in shots on goal 5-1 and corner kicks 5-0. Senior Alex VonHolle and redshirt freshman Liam McGuire each notched a team high two shots as Igor O'Rear registered a shot, and the lone shot on frame for the Mountain Lions.

In the first half, the Mountain Lions and Orediggers were trading shots until CSM found an opportunity in the 20th minute as a long pass beat the only UCCS defender and Mines' Ben Overholt finished lower right to take the lead 1-0. UCCS came back to place offensive pressure in the 35th minute where O'Rear placed a shot on goal, but the Orediggers came away with a save.

The Orediggers continued attacking in the second half and came away with their second score of the game in the 75th minute as CSM's Baptiste Debuire broke away to finish low right for a 2-0 lead.

The Mountain Lions were unable to get on the board Sunday afternoon, as goalkeeper Scott Jensen went on to bag three saves against the Orediggers.

UCCS will head back home as they prepare to host Westminster College on Friday, Sept. 27 for a 6 p.m. match on Homecoming Weekend.
