Mountain Lions nearly beat No. 18 Rangers in an Exciting Conference Opening Battle

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (2-7, 0-1 RMAC) fell in an exciting conference opener to the No. 18 Regis University Rangers.  The match went into a tight five sets with the first three sets going into double digits in lead changes.  In the end the Rangers (7-2, 1-0 RMAC) pulled it out with the sets finishing, 25-23, 19-25, 25-21, 20-25, and 13-15.

The Mountain Lions finished the five-set match with 43 kills and a .121 hitting percentage.  Senior Grace Nelson had a season high 16 kills coming close to her career high of 19.  Coming in clutch again for the Mountain Lions was freshman setter Emily Ettel with 33 assists for the match.

Defensively, Lauren Brown had a strong night protecting the net with seven blocks.  The Mountain Lions kept Regis University on their toes at the net posting a season high 11 blocks.

Mara LeGrand proved be an important player for the Rangers ending the match with 53 of the team's 54 assists.   Two-time RMAC Defensive Player of the Week, Nikki Kennedy, showed her versatility with 16 kills for the Rangers as well.

The Mountain Lions continue the excitement tomorrow night at 5 p.m. when they face Colorado Christian University (4-5, 0-1 RMAC) in the Gallogly Events Center.
