COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., -- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team netted their first home win of the season Saturday night in a dominating performance over Minot State University, 3-0. The win snapped a five-match losing streak as the Mountain Lions close the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 2-6 overall record.
UCCS defeated the Beavers in straight sets, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-17. The Mountain Lions notched at least 15 kills in each set and hit a season high .385 at the net.
UCCS was nearly untouchable in set two, putting down 15 kills and committing only two errors to go with a .760 side out percentage in a nine-point win.
Grace Nelson was on fire as she laid down a season high 13 kills. She tallied four kills in the bookend sets while adding five kills in set two and committed only two errors on 22 attempts (.500 hitting percentage).
Taylor Smith chipped in 10 kills and hit .471 while adding seven digs and assisting on two blocks.
Lauren Brown registered nine kills, including five in the final set.
Hannah Ammerman and
Emily Ettel each served two aces. Forty-one of the Mountain Lions 46 assists came from Ettel.
UCCS' defensive game was equally destructive as the Mountain Lions posted 46 digs to the Beavers 21.
Jordyn Kinsey and Smith combined for 15 digs with Kinsey taking 25 of MSU's serves.
The Mountain Lions will open the conference season on Friday, Sept. 20 against Regis University at 7 p.m. during White Out Night. The first 250 UCCS students to the match will receive a free t-shirt.
