The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team will host the Mountain Lion Invitational this weekend. UCCS will play four matches on Sept. 12-14 at the Gallogly Events Center as part of the 12-match invitational.

PARKING
Fans can park for free in Lot 103 on Thursday and Friday, but will need to pay if parking in any other lot on campus.
Fans parking on campus but not in Lot 103 for Thursday's match or on Friday until 4 p.m. will need to pay for parking.

Parking is free after 4 p.m. on Friday, and all day Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT
UCCS Mountain Lions finished last week 1-3 at the Oredigger Classic. They started their season off with a 1-3 loss against Angelo State after a 4 match series where freshman, Emily Ettel, making her debut with a team high of 27 assists. The Mountain Lions won their second match, against Fresno Pacific University, after losing the first set 19-25 the team came back sweeping the series in a 3-1 victory. The weekend finished off with losses to Lubbock Christian and Dallas Baptist. After losing the first two sets against the Chaparrals the Mountain Lions tied the match, winning sets three and four 25-19 and 29-27.
THE SERIES
- The Mountain Lions last played Angelo State in 2013 and ended their series in a 1-3 loss. UCCS is currently 3-6 overall against the Belles.
- UCCS last faced Emporia State in 2013. Friday will mark the fourth matchup between the two teams as UCCS will be searching for their first win against the Hornets.
- This will be the Mountain Lions first time playing Arkansas-Fort Smith and Minot State in program history.
SCOUTING REPORT
- The Belles come to the Mountain Lion Invitational with a 4-0 start to their 2019 season.
- Emporia State brings with them the momentum of three wins on the road from the Washburn Invitational and a five match win against No. 18 Drury University.
- Arkansas-Fort Smith carries an impressive resume without having a losing season as a Division II program. This year they are moving from the Heartland Conference to the Lone Star Conference.
- The Beavers have an experienced lineup and junior Mackenzie Froelich starting her season off with a record of 40 assists.
HOT TAKES
- Last weekend freshman Emily Ettel and junior Raelynn Edge combined for 11 of the team's 20 aces.
- Ettel also had 146 assists at the Classic giving her 9.12 assists per set for the season.
- Defending the net Lauren Brown and Josie Russell both hit double digits in blocks with Russell also hitting .250 offensively.
- Taylor Smith ended her weekend leading the team with 2.62 kills per set.
- Defending the back row is libero Jordyn Kinsey who dug up 71 attacks.
UCCS HEAD COACH CHRISSY ELDER
- Chrissy Elder is in her seventh season as Head Coach of the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball program. In her first six seasons, Elder has led the Mountain Lions to the RMAC Tournament every year, and has coached 19 all-conference and 28 academic all-conference performers.
- Elder came to UCCS from the University of Central Missouri where she was a member of a coaching staff that lead the Jennies to the NCAA Division II national semifinals in 2010 and the national quarterfinals in 2011. She joined the staff in 2007 as an assistant coach before she was promoted to Head Assistant Coach in 2009. Prior to joining the staff at Central Missouri, Elder was the interim head coach for the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She joined the Kangaroo staff as a graduate assistant coach in 2005. Elder finished her collegiate playing career at Pittsburg State University, where she also doubled as a student assistant coach for the Gorillas in her senior season. She was an All-American and All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association setter and helped Pittsburg State advanced to the national tournament. Elder also spent three seasons at the University of Missouri. In 2005, Elder earned her bachelor's degree in recreation and fitness management from Pittsburg State, and in 2008 she went on to earn her master's degree from UMKC.
T-MINUS 8 WINS
- Coach Elder is eight wins away from reaching the 100-win milestone mark. An interim head coach in 2006 at Missouri-Kansas City where she went 7-23, she has garnered 85 wins at UCCS (85-84), including three winning seasons. In seven years as a head coach, Elder owns a 92-107 record.
UPCOMING MATCHES
- Next weekend the Mountain Lions will be opening the conference season at home. UCCS will play host to Regis on Friday on White Out Night. The first 250 UCCS students to the match will receive a free White Out t-shirt.
