DURANGO, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs lacrosse team earned a 16-6 win at Fort Lewis College Sunday afternoon for their second straight win. The win improves the Mountain Lions to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Skyhawks (1-5, 1-4 RMAC) struck first just three minutes into the game.
Audrey Napp knotted the game six minutes later with her fifth goal of the season.
Angela Naughton took advantage of a free position shot to give the Mountain Lions a 2-1 lead they would not relinquish. The Mountain Lions added four more goals for a four goal lead, 5-1, with 14 minutes left in the first half.
Kiera Lowe for the back of the net for the eventual game-winning goal before Naughton scored her second goal of the half as the Mountain Lions took a 9-3 lead at halftime. UCCS closed the first half outscoring FLC, 4-1.
The Mountain Lions took the momentum into the second half, scoring seven straight goals.
Naughton finished the game with a game high four goals. Lowe,
Madison Ellis,
Natalie Church and
Brianna Martinez each chipped in two goals. Lowe added two assists and picked up two ground balls.
Audrey Napp and Church combined to win 10 of UCCS' 20 draws.
Defensively,
Ellie O'Brien charted eight ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Kennedy Travis played 50 minutes in goal, making five saves and allowing three goals for her fourth win of the season.
UCCS outshot FLC, 45-15, and picked up 24 ground balls while forcing the Skyhawks to commit 19 turnovers.
The Mountain Lions will return home to take on Westminster College on Friday, April 12 at 5 p.m.
