Lacrosse Dominates Bison in RMAC Opener, 23-4

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Competing in their first game outside of Colorado Springs, Colo. and in the first game of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs dominated Oklahoma Baptist University Saturday afternoon, 23-4.
 
The win improves UCCS to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in RMAC contests.
 
The Mountain Lions scored the first eight goals of the game.  The scoring spree started just 27 seconds into the game after Natalie Church found the back of the net on Kiera Lowe's assist.
 
By the end of the first half, Lowe had scored four goals while Kyer Frederick added three goals and Church chipped in two goals to help UCCS take a 16-3 lead. 
 
Coming out of halftime, Sydney Malcolm gave UCCS a 17-3 lead on an unassisted goal.  The Bison answered with their fourth and final goal of the game as the Mountain Lions shredded six more goals by Brianna Martinez (two), Frederick, Ellis, Church and Malcolm to close out the game. 
 
UCCS notched 32 of their 45 shot attempts in the first half while also picking up 30 of their 41 ground balls.  The Mountain Lions were successful on 18-of-19 clear attempts and won 18 of the 27 draw controls.
 
Lowe led the Mountain Lions with four goals and an assist as Frederick contributed another three goals.  Church was the third Mountain Lion to record a hat as the trio accounted for 11 of the Mountain Lions 23 goals.
 
Church dominated the center circle winning 12 draw controls.
 
Ellie O'Brien paced the defense with five caused turnovers and six ground balls.
 
Kennedy Travis made one save in goal in the first half before Emma Becker finished the game, making two saves.
 
The Mountain Lions will return home Monday, March 11 to face NCAA Division III opponent Illinois Wesleyan at 5 p.m.
