Late Rallies Lead to Two Mountain Lion Victories

AZTEC, N.M. – Lexi Andersen hit a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team to a 5-4 win over Colorado School of Mines.  The Mountain Lions won their second straight game and their second road game of the season with a seventh inning rally to defeat Fort Lewis College, 9-5, in the final game of the RMAC pod series. Sunday's softball games were played at Aztec Tiger Sports Complex in Aztec, N.M. due to unplayable field conditions in Durango, Colo.

Game One | UCCS 5, Orediggers 4 (9 innings)
Playing as the home team in the neutral site game against the Orediggers, Andersen drove in Rayle Glover on a sacrifice fly in the second inning to tie the game, 1-1.

CSM added one run in the third inning and another in the fifth to snag a 3-1 lead they would hold until the seventh inning.  Taylor Reidhead hit her sixth home run of the season that brought in Alex Cook to tie the game to send it to extra innings.

Mines retook the lead in the eighth inning when Boston Ludlow hit a triple to right center. Ludlow scored on the same play on a throwing error to give CSM a 4-3 lead.  UCCS quickly tied the game in the bottom half from Missy Martinek's double to plate Bryn Horton.

The Orediggers drew a walk to lead off the ninth inning, but UCCS' defense shut down the next three batters to preserve the 4-4 tie.

With two outs and no runners on base, Romines hit a solid double to left field before Andersen singled up the middle to bring in Romines for the Mountain Lions 16th win of the season.

Romines went 3-for-4 against the Orediggers with one run scored.  Cook, Reidhead and Andersen each posted two hits as the Mountain Lions finished with 14 hits while holding Mines to seven hits.

Taylor Reidhead pitched all seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out 10 batters.

Game Two | UCCS 9, Skyhawks 5
In the final game of the pod series, the Mountain Lions exploded for seven runs in the seventh for a come-from-behind win over the Skyhawks.

UCCS entered the sixth inning trailing FLC, 5-0, before Romines nailed a two-run shot over the right centerfield fence to put the Mountain Lions on the scoreboard.

The seventh inning comeback started with Shae Bushey who pinched hit for Amanda Nobles.  Bushey drew a walk, followed by Martinek's walk.  Cook singled to left field to score Bryn Horton who was pinch running for Bushey.  With Martinek on third base, Peyton Reisman singled up the middle to plate Martinek.  Glover brought in the game-tying run from a double to right field to bring in Cook.

After a Skyhawks pitching change, Reidhead scored the game-winning run off a wild pitch.  Glover, Romines and Andersen added insurance runs for the Mountain Lions.  All nine UCCS batters went through the order in the final inning, including two plate appearances for Horton and Martinek.

Braelyne Crenshaw earned the win in the circle for UCCS, pitching the final four innings of the game and holding FLC to only two runs on seven hits.

Seven Mountain Lions combined nine hits with Martinek and Romines notching two hits each.  Romines went 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI and two walks.

The Mountain Lions will return home for a four game series against Colorado Christian University April 6-7.
