COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomore
Kiera Lowe (Bloomington, Minn.) set a new program record for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team Friday night in a 19-15 setback to No. 12 Colorado Mesa University at Mountain Lion Stadium. Lowe notched eight goals and an assist for nine points to set a new program record for most points and goals in a game.

Angela Naughton tied
Natalie Church's program record for most assists in a game (four). Church tallied four assists against Adams State University in the season opener.
Tonight's loss moves the Mountain Lions to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. No. 12 Colorado Mesa improves to 9-1 on the season (3-1 RMAC).
The game was slated to start at 5 p.m. but was delayed until 5:45 p.m. due to a lightening in the area.
CMU's Marissa Leonardi scored a natural hat trick to give her team a 4-1 lead before another lightening delay postponed play for nearly an hour.
After the break from Mother Nature, the Mountain Lions came out to score two straight goals from Lowe and
Heather O'Hern, cutting down the Mavericks lead to one goal, 4-3.
The Mavericks appeared to take a seven-goal lead into halftime, but Lowe netted two goals in the final 34 seconds of the first half, including a goal as time expired, as UCCS trailed at the half, 10-5.
CMU grabbed their largest lead of the game, outscoring UCCS 5-1 to open the second half and nab a 15-6 lead.
As weather moved in, UCCS warmed up and finished the game outscoring CMU, 9-4, in the final 20 minutes.
Church started the run at 20:29 on an assist from Naughton, followed by a goal from
Madison Ellis (
Brianna Martinez assist) and another goal from Church.
The Mavericks extended their lead back to nine goals after finding the back of the net for three straight scores in less than one minute of action.
In the final five minutes, UCCS struck hard and fast and nearly pulled out the upset, netting five unanswered goals. Lowe accounted for three of the five goals, including one each from Naughton and Martinez.
Lowe, who scored four goals in each half, finished with a game high 11 shot attempts.
Gianni Cannon and
Ellie O'Brien combined to pick up 15 of the Mountain Lions 32 ground balls.
Church won a team high six draw controls while
Sydney Malcolm and
Holly Sodomka each brought in three.
Kennedy Travis defended the goal all 60 minutes, making eight saves.
The Mavericks were led by Leonardi's six goals and 10 shots.
UCCS was outshot, 33-26, and were slightly edged in ground balls (33-32) and draw controls (19-16).
UCCS will hit the road next week for their third and fourth road games of the year. The Mountain Lions will play at Adams State on April 5 before traveling to Durango on April 7.
