Gaibler Notches Double-Double in Loss at Black Hills State

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Madi Gaibler scored 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to record her second career double-double Saturday afternoon at Black Hills State University, but the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team lost a 72-57 decision to the Yellow Jackets.

With tonight's loss, the Mountain Lions and Yellow Jackets are tied in the conference standings at 12-9 overall.

BHSU took a 6-0 lead to start the game before Gaibler hit a three-pointer, followed by two free throws by Chelsea Pearson and a layup from Emily Seifert for a 7-6 lead at the 6:41 mark in the first quarter.  The Yellow Jackets quickly regained the lead and went on a 25-6 run and would hold the lead for the remainder of the game.

UCCS outscored Black Hills State in the second half, 37-24, but could not overcome a 24-point first half deficit, 48-24.

Gaibler made 5-of-18 field goals and all but one of her free throw attempts.  She added three dimes and blocked two shots in 35 minutes of action.

Maddie Golla came off the bench to score all nine of her points from three-point range.

UCCS was out-rebounded on the glass, 43-33, and held to a 32.7 field goal shooting mark (16-of-49).  The Mountain Lions attempted 11 more free throws than BHSU, sinking 19-of-24 (79.2 percent).

BHSU's Racquel Wientjes led both teams with 19 points.

UCCS (13-14) will play their final game of the regular season on Friday, March 1 at Colorado School of Mines.
