ThunderWolves' Late Game Surge Tops UCCS, 67-73

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In a Steel and Silver showdown inside Gallogly Events Center, University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team falls to Colorado State University-Pueblo at a final score of 67-73.

UCCS had three double-digit scorers in the game with Jae Ferrin, Chelsea Pearson, and Maddie Golla scoring 12, 10, and 10, respectively. Pearson partnered her 12 points with five assists, as Ferrin and Pearson bagged seven boards each, with all of Ferrin's rebounds being on the defensive side of the ball.

The Mountain Lions (12-12, 11-7 RMAC) led a majority of the game (28:17) with their biggest lead being 15-points in as late as the third quarter. There were seven lead changes throughout the game as the ThunderWolves' late push in the second half was the difference in the game.

UCCS entered the second half up 37-28 and increased that lead to 15 before CSU-P strung together a 10-0 run to bring the game within five half way through the third quarter. The Mountain Lions out-rebounded the ThunderWolves 11-9 in the quarter, but UCCS had a tough time taking care of the ball as they turned the ball over five teams with CSUP scoring 10 points of the Mountain Lions' turnovers. Despite the comeback, UCCS still led 55-52 after the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, turnovers plagued the Mountain Lions once again with eight turnovers in the quarter as the ThunderWolves turned those into another 10 points. UCCS jumped out to a seven-point lead at the seven-minute at about the eight-minute mark, but CSUP kept chipping away at the Mountain Lion lead as they hit two threes down the stretch to create an 11-0 run that put them ahead 69-65. From there, UCCS had one more opportunity to bring the game even with 23 seconds left on the clock but were unsuccessful with a shot beyond the arc.

As the Mountain Lions come closer to tournament play, they will host their final home game Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. against New Mexico Highlands University in Gallogly Events Center. Saturday's game will also be Senior Night for the Mountain Lions as they honor Kelly O'Flannigan, Jae Ferrin, and Emily Seifert.
