COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team does some damage from three-point land as they beat New Mexico Highland University at final score of 71-62 inside Gallogly Events Center.
The Mountain Lions (13-12, 12-7 RMAC) shot better from beyond the arc than from the field as they had a 48.1 (13-27) three-point percentage versus a 44.8 (26-58) field goal percentage.
Chelsea Pearson and
Maddie Golla each registered a team high 17 points, with
Madi Gaibler grabbing 12 boards and coming up one point shy of a double-double.
In the first half alone, UCCS made 10 of their 13 threes as they shot 19-33 from the field (58%) to get out in front of NMHU 49-26.
Senior
Emily Seifert came out to score seven of her 11 points in the first half as she also tallied three blocks for the game, while
Kelly O'Flannigan helped spread the floor on the offensive side of the ball by dishing out five assists to match her five points.
During the second half, the Mountain Lions continued to push the floor and ended up jumping out to their biggest lead of the game (27 points) early in the fourth quarter.
UCCS received a lot of bench help with 32 points coming from four different Mountain Lions, compared to NMHU's 15 points. UCCS also edged out the NMHU 32-29 in rebounds to help notch the double-digit victory.
After Saturday night's game, there was a special presentation to acknowledge the UCCS women's basketball senior, including
Kelly O'Flannigan,
Emily Seifert, and
Jae Ferrin to thank them for all of their time and hard work in the program.
UCCS will wrap up the regular season the road as they take on South Dakota School of Mines & Technology on Friday, Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
