DENVER, Colo. – After trailing by 18 points to start the fourth quarter, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team stormed back to cut the lead to five points, but the Mountain Lions fell short at Regis University Friday night, 66-56.
Regis opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer that gave them their largest lead over UCCS, 51-33.
Madi Gaibler led the Mountain Lions comeback after netting eight points as part of a 16-6 run.
Abby Feickert chipped in five points and
Chelsea Pearson capped off the run with a trey.
Gaibler and Feickert combined for 34 of the Mountain Lions 56 points. Gaibler led UCCS with 19 points and a team high six rebounds. Feickert chipped in 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Mountain Lions (1-8, 0-3 RMAC) shot 31.9 percent from the floor (23-of-72) and hit 6-of-12 free throws. After missing their first 11 attempts from long range, the Mountain Lions finished the game hitting four of their last six attempts.
Regis (3-6, 1-2 RMAC) sank as many field goals as UCCS but on 10 fewer attempts (37.1 percent). The Rangers shot 11 more free throws than UCCS, making 15-of-23 (65.2 percent).
Two Rangers recorded double-doubles as Jaz'Myne Snipes posted 20 points and 15 rebounds, and Whitney Jacob notched 13 points and 19 rebounds.
The Mountain Lions will be back in action Saturday night at Colorado Christian University. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m.
