Colorado Springs, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team (10-18, 8-8 RMAC) lose in an exciting five-set match against Western State Colorado University (11-13, 7-9). The Mountaineers played strong in the first set only beating the Mountain Lions by two, then UCCS rolled out the next two wins. The fourth set was a nail biter with the scored tied eight times and three lead changes resulting in the WSCU winning, 27-25. In the final set the Mountaineers found their edge to win by three (23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-27, 12-15).
Jordyn Kinsey stayed busy defending the backline with 30 digs, beating her career high by two.
Anabela Cagen supported Kinsey on defense achieving seven blocks at the net, just one below her career high.
Lauryn Shockley led UCCS in kills producing 22 for the match and
Lauren Brown piggybacking off her with 10 kills on 23 attempts and only one error giving her a .391 hitting percentage.
Raelynn Edge attained a match high in five sets with 48 assists.
UCCS was only down on kills by three compared to WCSU, but had a better hitting percentage (.179 to .160). Kristen Companik and Jordyn Todd proved to be vital for the Mountaineers both with 16 kills.
UCCS volleyball heads to Grand Junction tomorrow night to play against Colorado Mesa University at 7 p.m.
