RAPID CITY, S.D. – In an offensive heavy match, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team comes out on top with the 6-3 victory over South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, S.D.
UCCS (6-9-1, 5-8-0 RMAC) had their best offensive performance of the season as they outshot SD Mines (3-12-1, 2-11-1 RMAC) 23-10 and tripled the Hardrockers' shots on goal 18-6. Freshman
Kolby Raineri had an incredible match as he recorded the 13
th hat trick in program history and registered a perfect shots on goal percentage (5-5). Senior
Alex VonHolle matched Raineri's six points with two goals and two assists of his own as he breaks his own record for most assists in a single season with 10 so far this season, while also setting a career high for points in a match.
Sunday's high scoring affair saw five scores in the first half with VonHolle recording the first goal of the match off a penalty kick in the sixth minute. Shortly after, SD Mines responded with a goal in the seventh minute to bring the score back even in the opening 10 minutes. The Mountain Lions then retook the lead in the 18
th minute as Raineri took over to score three consecutive goals. Sam Gomez found Raineri in the 18
th minute to give UCCS the 2-1 advantage, with VonHolle connecting with Raineri on the next two scores to bring UCCS lead to 4-1. Raineri could not be stopped as all three of his goals came in the first half.
In the second half, VonHolle kept the scoring alive for the Mountain Lions as the senior netted their fifth goal in the 49
th minute with
Liam McGuire providing the assist for the 5-1 lead. After four consecutive scores from the Mountain Lions, the Hardrockers developed some offense of their own by scoring twice in the span of 13 minutes to cut the UCCS lead to 5-3. But the Mountain Lions kept the foot on the gas pedal as they closed the game out with a goal in the 78
th minute with
Igor O'Rear netting his second goal of the year.

The Mountain Lions now have one last match for the 2019 season as they travel to Lakewood, Colo. on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to face Colorado Christian University at 3 p.m.
