LUBBOCK, Texas – The defending NCAA Division II champions and the No. 2 ranked team in the WBCA poll, Lubbock Christian University handed the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team a 76-44 setback Friday afternoon in Lubbock, Texas at the LCU Classic. The loss moves the Mountain Lions to 1-2 on the season while the Chaps improve to 3-0.
The Mountain Lions jumped to an 8-0 start behind
Abby Feickert's back-to-back three-pointers and
Chelsea Pearson's fast break layup. LCU responded and took a 19-10 lead after the first stanza.
UCCS headed into halftime trailing the Chaps, 43-22, and were held to only nine points in the third quarter as LCU racked up 23 points.
Tatum Tellin led the rebounding effort with six caroms as UCCS out-rebounded the Chaps, 35-32.
Desiree Pierson and
Madi Gaibler each snagged five caroms.
Feickert led the Mountain Lions with nine points, all of which came from three-point range.
Ellie Moore chipped in eight points on 3-of-9 shooting.
The Mountain Lions finished the game shooting 28.6 percent from the floor (18-of-63) and 20 percent from long range (4-of-20). UCCS netted 10 second chance points and 20 points in the paint.
UCCS will take on St. Mary's University from Lubbock, Texas tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. (MT).
