No. 1 UCCS Clinches Program's First RMAC Regular Season Championship With 4-0 Win Over BHSU

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – For the first time in program history, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team claims the RMAC Regular Season Championship with a 4-0 blowout win over Black Hills State University on Senior Night inside Mountain Lion Stadium.

The Mountain Lions (16-0-0, 12-0-0 RMAC) put a handle on the Yellow Jackets (3-11-1, 3-7-1 RMAC) with UCCS allowing BHSU to get off only one shot and zero shots on goal. In total, UCCS outshot BHSU by a whopping 37-1 as the Mountain Lions landed 15 of those shots on frame while also holding the advantage in corner kicks 12-2.

UCCS' Shanade Hopcroft led the team with seven shots and four shots on goal as she went on to record three points off a goal and an assist in the match. Senior Aleesa Muir had a stellar match as she wreaked havoc on both sides of the ball in their ninth shutout win of the season, claiming the game-winning goal in the contest. Freshman Mollee Swift registered her fourth shutout in goal as she stays perfect on the season with a 13-0-0 record in frame.

No. 1 UCCS peppered the Yellow Jackets with shots from beginning to end as they came away with two goals in each half. Muir got the game started with a goal in the sixth minute as she handled the BHSU defense herself to post her third goal of the season and give UCCS the 1-0 lead. The shots continued to pour in as the Mountain Lions kept BHSU busy with 22 shots in the half, then coming away with their second goal as Hopcroft and Jaden Davis combined for the double assist on Amelia Junge's goal in the 39th minute to make it 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Hopcroft made a second scoring appearance as senior Caitlin Esterle found Hopcroft for her first assist of the season as the redshirt junior finished it for the 3-0 lead. To cap off the championship clinching win, Fabiola Estrada connected with Kaitlin Hinkle in the box where the freshman buried her ninth goal of the season, tying teammate Tarah Patterson for most goals in a freshman season.

The offensive show that the Mountain Lions have put on in 2019 is rewriting the UCCS record books as the Mountain Lions have set a new team record of total assists in a season with 43, and are currently six goals short for setting the season goal record (62).

After the match, the UCCS Women's Soccer Team honored five incredible student-athletes for Senior Night as the program recognized Makenna Fuhrmann, Aleesa Muir, Naomi Gurrola, Sammi Walker, and Caitlin Esterle.

With Friday night's win, the Mountain Lions have officially clinched the number one seed in the conference tournament as they set to host a round of quarterfinal games and a semifinal match. UCCS now closes out the regular season with a home match against Regis University at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3 inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
