UCCS Caps Off Undefeated Regular Season With 4-1 Win over Regis

COLORADO SPRNGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team caps off an undefeated regular season for the first time in program history with a 4-1 win over Regis University on Sunday at Mountain Lion Stadium.

No. 1 UCCS (17-0-0, 13-0-0 RMAC) and Regis (9-5-3, 7-4-2 RMAC) played a tightly contested first half but the Mountain Lions were able to create a sizeable lead as they netted three second half goals. UCCS outshot the Rangers 19-8 and held the advantage in corner kicks 4-2. Freshman Taeya Schueppert scored twice as she recorded her first multi-goal game in the black & gold, including scoring her first collegiate game-winning goal. Shanade Hopcroft tied her career high in shots with eight with freshman Nicolette Sandoval notching five shots in the match.

The Mountain Lions scored first in Sunday's contest with the freshman to freshman connection of Jaden Davis and Taeya Schueppert giving UCCS a 1-0 lead in the 4th minute. In the 31st minute, Regis answered back with Emily Ramos assisting Madison Hand for the equalizer, ending the first half in a 1-1 tie.

Regis' first half goal was the only score for the Rangers as the Mountain Lions held them to three shots on goal, allowing just two shots on goal after the Rangers' first score.

UCCS on the other hand kicked up a notch with three goals in the second half. The Mountain Lions recaptured the lead in the 64th minute with a rare scene as goalkeeper Mollee Swift booted the ball to the Ranger's side of the field where Schueppert fielded it and created separation to land a 20-yard shot into the far corner of the goal. Just 12 minutes later, Aleesa Muir received a cross from Zoe Sims and finished into he right side of the goal for the 3-1 lead. Shortly after in the 79th minute, freshman Tanner Sanders put the game out of reach as she received a pass from Caitlin Esterle and beat an out of frame goalkeeper for the final 4-1 score.

With the regular season officially over, the Mountain Lions will prepare to host the RMAC Quarterfinals and an RMAC Semifinal match next weekend. UCCS enters the RMAC Tournament as the #1 seed and will face #8 seed Colorado State University-Pueblo on Friday, Nov. 8 for a 4 p.m. match.
